Are Monogamous Relationships Dying Out?

Men and women, and even girls and boys, wonder at some point in their lives whether monogamous relationships are still worth it today.
Even at a young age it's normal to frequently trade in your "relationships" for a new one. You lose interest in your boyfriend or girlfriend too quickly, want to try something different and broaden your horizons. Boys and girls don't want to sleep with just one person; no, they want to experiment with many. At a young age that's not surprising, and many feel this way. After the first crush, everyday life quickly sets in and you want to move on. Adults between 25 and 80 feel the same way. Monogamous relationships can feel boring and people want to experiment, regardless of how long they've been together or how old they are. Yet monogamy, in turn, means you're already in a committed relationship, partnership or marriage, and despite that you become intimate with other partners. What you call that is up to each person: open relationship/marriage or monogamy. The drive is lived out with a variety of partners, and as a result those involved usually feel more alive and happier.

Monogamous relationships vs. polygamy
Polygamy, plural marriage, certainly offers married couples more fun, excitement and relaxation. The hunting instinct is kept alive, and even the married couple can have more fun together thanks to the changing partners. The other sex partners provide the extra kick and enrich a marriage that has gone stale. But for anyone who has a problem with jealousy, a polygamous relationship could become a severe test. A monogamous relationship means the partners are faithful to each other and really only have sex with each other. For many couples that is still the most gallant solution. The risk that a partner cheats is very high these days. The internet offers countless opportunities that make an affair all too easy. Which way of life is better for a couple is something the partners have to settle in an open conversation with each other. Sometimes you're almost stunned when your partner is in favor of an open relationship even though you've been faithful so far. Spouses should try everything once and then take stock of which form of relationship makes them happy.

Advantages of a monogamous relationship
In a fast-moving world, many long for a faithful, honest, caring and loving partner. If you have children, a monogamous relationship is an advantage, because you shouldn't model some kind of fast-and-loose life for your kids. Anyone who is a bon vivant themselves should think carefully about wanting children. What values do we want to pass on to our children? For childless couples, a monogamous relationship is just as suitable as a polygamous one. In a monogamous relationship, the old values we still know from our parents are more present. As a couple, you're always there for each other and experience everything together. Fidelity is an important topic, and as a couple you have to keep asking yourselves whether you're happy in this arrangement. But as we know from our grandparents, a monogamous relationship is a beautiful thing, a safe harbor where you feel secure and can rely on each other.
