Making a Relationship Work

Everyone wants a committed relationship, makes plans and hopes for a happy life in close company. But it isn't always easy to make a relationship work.
to keep it going successfully over the years. Misunderstandings, unfulfilled wishes or dreams, lack of trust or poor communication are just a few examples that often lead to a rupture. Then you ask the typical question: "What went wrong?" There is some advice on how to make a relationship work.
Making a relationship work - creating clarity
A relationship is based on principles. It's important to know what a partnership is and what it is not. A partnership is not a fight over who is stronger, smarter or more powerful. The relationship consists of two independent people with the same rights who have decided that from a certain point on they will spend their lives together. The goal of a partnership is to experience and share everything with each other. But that doesn't mean one of the two has to give up their own way of life to serve the other. Both deserve the same degree of respect.
Living together has to be learned. That includes qualities like patience, being able to listen, talking openly with each other about problems and successes, and admitting your own mistakes. The perfect person or the ideal partner does not exist. Prince Charming or the dream woman is just that: the idealization of a person who exists only in thought. That means everyone makes a mistake (or several) now and then. But instead of blaming the partner or certain circumstances, these should be accepted. Mistakes serve to learn from life's situations.

What a partnership consists of
- making a relationship work
It is made up of three essential elements:
- emotional closeness,
- communication,
- sexuality.
These three aspects are the elementary building blocks that every couple should work on together like a team in order to make their relationship work. That requires trust and openness as well as continuous conversations to erase any doubts and to know at all times where the relationship stands. Differences of opinion are part of it, because each person is a world of their own. That's why disagreements are unavoidable. They can be resolved, however, by the couple discussing their different viewpoints respectfully in order to find common ground.
A mix of closeness and distance

A lasting relationship is made up of both closeness and distance. That means space should be created from the start. Otherwise the relationship risks suffocating. That includes privacy. A sense of independence strengthens your own self-confidence. Each person pursues their own interests, which aren't always shared with the partner. That doesn't mean they should be neglected. Pursuing your own interests is perfectly fine. But shared projects should also be forged. Following a common goal that you can talk about and that the couple fights for together strengthens every relationship.
